Six Tips For Email List Building

Category : Main Content

One of the oldest methods in the world of selling products or services has been the venerable mailing list. From old time “direct mail” letters to modern email messages, the “LIST” has almost reached mythical proportions in marketing circles.

And with good reason because lists work! But most marketers are not sure exactly how to start and maintain a good email list. Read the 6 tips below to understand how to increase your email list building skills.

(1) Add a Sign Up For On Every Single Webpage of Your Site

Most people both old and new marketers forget this simple concept. Put your form in front of your visitors’ faces. Most people that come to your website will be “tourists” in one second and then they click away gone forever. Others are genuinely interested in what you to offer but either don’t have the need for it at the current time or don’t have the money. Make it easy for those interested to keep in contact with you. Put a sign-up form “above the fold” on each every page.

(2) Tout the Benefits of Joining Your List

On your subscription or landing page, “prove” to potential subscribers that your newsletter will not be (a) spam (b) a waste of their time. People have lots of info overload in their lives, so they want to read things in their inboxes that are interesting, useful or informative. Offer testimonials, sample messages or an archive of older newsletter issues. Show them “what’s in it for me”.

(3) Offer Special Opt-in Incentives

Okay, this seems like a bribe right? So? People have spam on top of spam, piling into their inboxes everyday and most of them of very tired of it. By creating a really good special report, giving away discount coupons, or great video or podcast series, you are offering a bit of carrot to a very timid gun-shy rabbit. You drop a little carrot here; a little lettuce there, and soon, they will come of their holes and take a full nibble of what you to offer. So start developing that bunny food.

(4) Use basic SEO Tactics

The most underutilized SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tip, I know about is page title names. Most people either don’t know or don’t bother to rename their webpage titles to reflect the content of the page. Say you write a serious kick-butt article on list building but on your website it’s named “list1.html”, “list2.html”. Give the search engines and potential prospects a chance to find you! You could rename them, “how-list-building-rocks.html” or “increase-profits-with-list-building.html”. Be clear about what’s on the page.

(5) Use Pay-per-Click Ads to Drive Traffic

If you have the budget, you can use something like Google’s Adwords program to push traffic to your email subscription landing page. You can select the keywords you want to use and then create a campaign around them, using classified like ads to get people to sign up. Make sure you have a great landing page, because every person who “clicks away” without signing up costs you money!

(6) Run a “Membership Drive”

Ask your current readers to help you get more subscribers. Set up “Send to a Friend” options on your website and ask people to send emails to their friends and business associates asking them to sign up. Give away a special report or coupons or some kind of prize to person who has the most “friends” to sign up.

By using these six tips for email list building, should you be well on your way to developing an awesome email list and powerful downline.

List Building Tips: What is List Building?

Category : Main Content

“List building is everything!, or “the money is the list”, your fortune is in the follow-up”. You have heard it all before but do you really understand exactly what list building is and why is important to your future?

What is List Building?

In its simplest form, list building a two step process: the one step is the act of “capturing” a potential customer’s name and email address and the second step is to use that information to create a relationship with that person. Notice I said “create a relationship” not to sell. I’ll get back to that in a minute.

You want to use your list building process to collect the names and email addresses of as many people who have shown an interest in you and your business as possible. Basically you want to put a list building link (subscription form or something like it) in front of as many visitors as you possibly can. Put subscription forms or a link to a subscription page on every page on your website.

List Building and Relationships

Old time sales guys love the saying, “Nobody likes being sold, but most everyone likes to buy.” And this is true for the most part. People have become very immune to hard sells and fast ball pitches. They don’t like being pressured and will put up a lot of resistance to the idea of being “sold” something.

Now on the other hand, almost everyone loves to buy things, myself included. If you look at the national consumer debt figures, spending money is not most people’s problem. They want to buy things that remove pain, increase pleasure or make their lives a little bit better and they want to enjoy themselves while doing it! That’s why shopping with friends is so much fun!

That is what you want to happen with your list. You should think of your list as a community of like minded people looking to “buy” things to solve their problems or make their lives more pleasant (like a virtual shopping center). And they want to buy those things with the input of their trusted friend and advisor, “YOU”.

List Building for the Long Term

List building should be renamed relationship building. People like to buy things from people they know, like and trust.  You want to create an environment of trust for your list members. Trust is the cornerstone of all business interactions. No one is buying anything if they feel they are going to lose money or be tricked. So creating trust is vital to the welling being for long term list building.

So how do you create trust? Just like in face-to-face interactions; be honest and be yourself. Being honest is simple; don’t lie to people to get them to do something. They will find out, get angry and they will go away…and bad mouth you in every email and forum they can find. They may even start up a “YourNameHereSucks.com” website. Seen it happen. Be real, be yourself. Let folks know who you are and what your business stands for.

List building is one of the most important elements of any online business and now that you understand why it so vital, you should be ready to start working on list building on your own.

How To Build A List In 4 Easy Ways

2

Category : Main Content

If you have been around internet marketing for more than a minute, you have probably heard the saying, “the money is in the list”. Well grab a chair and listen up, because it’s true. Even if you have hundreds or thousands of visitors to your website every day; you are still missing out on the best way to increase your profits: list marketing.

The Purpose of a List

A good email list allows your visitors an easy way to “know, like and trust you” which any salesperson will tell you is the quickest route from stranger to satisfied customer. Once you know how to build a list, you can use it to market to both a potential and current customer base.

4 Easy Ways to Build a List

(1) Offer a free newsletter or ezine – We all like a bargain. And a “free” email jammed pack full of solid information and useful tips is one the oldest and despite in the increase in spam, still one of the most dependable ways to remain in contact with your customers. In sales studies, over 90% of all customers said they would buy products or services again from the same vendor, “if asked.”

Use a free newsletter not only to build a list but build a list of repeat buyers!

(2) Make it Easy to Subscribe and Unsubscribe – Place your subscription link or form on each and every page of your website, not just on your homepage. Put it in an eye-catching and prominent position. You want your visitors to have every opportunity to sign up for your list. Also make it easy for them to see how simple it would be unsubscribe.

What…? But you want them to stay on your list as long as possible, right? Why would you make it easy for them to unsubscribe? Simple…most people don’t like getting into unknown situations with seeing the “exit is this way” sign first.

People don’t know you yet, and they are uncertain if you will fill up their inbox with yet more spam. So if you prove how trouble-free it would be unsubscribe then they will be more willing to sign and give you their previous email.

(3) Write Quality Articles – Writing articles is the most affordable way to both drive visitors to your website (to build your list) and to “prove” that you are an expert or specialist in your field. We all like to think of ourselves as being independent and strong minded, but if we get into trouble or are having a tough time figuring things; we all valve the input of “professional” or “expert” help.

Place your articles on your website, in your newsletter and submit them to article directories, and to other newsletters or blogs in related fields. Always include a resource box that links back to your list building landing page or to your main index page.

Don’t forget when you write articles to give away your best information! What? Yes, I know sounds counter intuitive but think about it just for a moment. If you give away your best “what-to-do” information, then you leave the world open for you to promote your best “how-to-do-it” products and services in your list. And people do think, “Dang, if they are giving stuff like this away for free, then their products/services must be first-rate!”

(4) Write a Free Ebook – Take several of your better articles or newsletter issues, polish them up, add a little bit more information and then combine them into a free, “best of ____” ebook. Some people may be reluctant to sign up for a “regular” published newsletter, will cheerfully sign up (and exchange their email address) for a 10-25 page ebook jammed packed with quality content and tips that they can use to solve a problem.

Now that you know how to build a list using these 4 tips, can truly understand make your email address book into a “money list”.

10 Lazy Tips To Build A List For Your Online Business

1

Category : Main Content

Lots of small business people make email list building sound both time consuming and difficult but here are 10 easy ways you can build a list to increase traffic to your website, increase revenues and decrease the number of “click-aways” on your site; all with very little effort on your part.

(1) Place a simple sign-up box on every page of your website. Make it easy for people to build a list for you. Let them know you are offering to give them even more great information or keep them in the loop of happenings with your business.

(2) Send out regular emails to your list. I am on lots of email lists. I get one e-newsletter that can run as long as 5-10 printed pages! I love’em. I get another newsletter “post card” that is only 200-300 words long. I love’em too. It’s not the length; but the “constancy of purpose”. Keep in contact with your list.

(3) Encourage your readers to forward your emails to their friends and business associates. If you write useful and interesting stuff, this is a free and easy way to build a list. People will naturally want to share your newsletter with their friends. But at least a 2-3 times a year, ask for help from readers when doing a “membership drive”.

(4) Make changing email addresses easy for reader. Place your change of address link in every email. The harder you make people work to change an email address, the more likely they are to just “delete” your message when it comes to the wrong inbox. Plus if someone is changing jobs and addresses and wants to take your newsletter along with them, let them!

(5) When people sign up for any of your services or buy your products, tell them they will receive your emails, too. Most people are more than willing to receive “Upcoming Events”, “Product Updates” or “Customer Service” messages from someone who they have done business with in the past. This is a great way to subtlety build a list without using a hard sell.

(6) Bring a hard copy sign-up sheet to all of your face-to-face events or at your front desk. I attend lots of conferences and other small business events and most everybody has a sign up sheet. But with tiny little lines! So naturally, by the time I crammed in everything, it was mostly illegible. So I started leaving my business cards instead. And you know what? No one ever follows up! Get people’s email addresses and use them!

(7) Collect business cards at face to face presentations or meetings. If you do lots of speaking events or presentations, tell your audience that you have even more information available, if they would be willing to leave their card with you and let you add them to your email list.

(8) Build a List by Asking For an Email Addresses On All of Your Forms. If you use contracts, letter of agreements or service agreements or forms of any kind for your business, change them to add email addresses to them. If people are filling out “name, rank and serial number” already, they will not balk at giving you their email.

(9) Offer a special download on your website. You don’t have to create an ebook or anything big. If lots of people come to your business asking the same kinds of questions, then you can create a mini how-to guide, checklist or FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) with the answers. You can then direct them to the website and get their email address in exchange for the information.

(10) Sponsor a contest or drawing. Place the contest sign up sheet proximately on your website and encourage people to register to win” and get your free newsletter.

Bonus: The most important tip of all: Create great content! If you write useful and relevant articles for newsletters, people will become hard core fans and spread the word about you and your business.

You will not have to be spending days or weeks, not earning anything because you don’t know what people want. You’ll have a business plan from your company, and that will always make things easier for you.

Also, when you use a downline builder, you will have the support that you need. You will get the encouragement to persevere should there be a lean time for your income. But as you build your list, you

will learn more about your customers, and what their needs are. As you use a downline you will be building great relationships with these people, as you teach them what you have learnt.

You don’t need to know everything; you just need to know one lesson more than the people who are in your downline. You should start to build your downline today, and keep building it. You will be surprised at the income you will generate even from a small list.

List building is about relationship building, and when you are all part of the same company, you have even more reason to work together and help each other.  There is no reason why you shouldn’t have a downline, and because of that you should start today to build your list, and build your downline.
